The video will explain and demonstrate a stepwise approach to the ankle, hip, knee, and shoulder exams including inspection, palpation, range of motion assessment, neurovascular testing and special tests. Each portion of the examination will be demonstrated on a patient volunteer. The examiner will describe the steps and techniques while they are performed. Relevant anatomic images will be displayed throughout the examination to reinforce understanding. After the video examination, there will be power point slides summarizing the examination steps. The sensitivity and specificity of individual exam maneuvers will be described. In addition, based on these sensitivities and specificities, an interpretation of positive and negative exam maneuvers will be recommended.

Description
Sports Medicine: Physical Examination of the Ankle, Hip, Knee, and Shoulder
This examination will include special tests designed to assess the arch of the foot, the plantar fascia, the anterior talofibular ligament, the calcaneofibular ligament, the anterior and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligaments, the Achilles tendon, the tibialis posterior, assessment for tarsal tunnel syndrome, the Lisfranc joint, and assessment for Morton’s neuroma.
Hip:
This examination will include special tests designed to assess the femoroacetabular joint, acetabular labrum, sacroiliac joint, and tensor fascia lata/IT band origin.
Knee:
This examination will include special tests designed to assess the patellofemoral compartment, cruciate and collateral ligaments, meniscus, posterolateral corner and IT Band insertion. During the examination, both normal and abnormal findings will be discussed. The examiner will describe the steps and techniques while they are performed.
Shoulder:
This examination will include special tests designed to assess the long head of the biceps tendon, each of the rotator cuff muscles, the labrum, the acromioclavicular joint, as well as glenohumeral stability and thoracic outlet syndrome. During the examination, both normal and abnormal findings will be discussed.
